PI: Prof. Benjamin Woolston
Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering
Ben joined Northeastern in 2020, after completing his PhD at MIT, and postdoctoral work at Harvard. His interdisciplinary research program combines approaches from metabolic engineering, synthetic biology, biochemistry and microbiology to engineer microbes for biochemical production, and as diagnostics and therapeutics in the human gut microbiota.
Dr. Patrick Sanford, PhD (2024)
Patrick is the first PhD graduate from the Woolston Lab. He developed advanced genetic tools for the acetogen Eubacterium limosum, and used these to explore natural products biosynthesis in anaerobic gut microbes through heterologous expression. After leaving the lab, he took a position as Metabolic Engineering Scientist at Terragia.
